Important Information
What materials are in OmieBox?
OmieBox is made from ABS, PP, food-grade silicone, and an 18/8 304 food-grade stainless steel thermos.
Is OmieBox BPA free?
Yes, OmieBox is BPA free and meets all FDA (The Food and Drug Administration) and CPSIA (The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) safety requirements.
Where is OmieBox made?
OmieBox is designed in California, USA and responsibly manufactured in China. The factory is ICTI certified, workers are treated fairly and the factory undergoes routine audits to ensure it meets environmental and physical safety standards.
Is OmieBox leakproof?
Yes, OmieBox has three leak-proof compartments, each of which can hold up to 1 teaspoon of liquid. Wet foods (soup, yogurt, dressing) should go into the thermos.
The sub-sections created with the divider are not protected from mixing with each other. The divider is designed to separate peas from carrots.
Can you wash an OmieBox in the dishwasher?
No. Do not wash OmieBox in a dishwasher. Hand washing is best. The high heat and harsh detergents used in dishwashers can damage OmieBox. Gentle hand washing keeps your OmieBox in perfect shape!
How to wash the silicone seal?
There are two silicone seals in your OmieBox. The first is the one that goes around the perimeter of the box. The second is a round O-ring that goes around your thermos lid. Both should be removed daily for cleaning. Wash in warm soapy water and allow to dry completely.
Without daily cleaning, the silicone is highly susceptible to mold growth, which is irreversible and requires the part to be replaced. No worries, we all get busy and sometimes forget. If mold appears, simply visit our website to purchase replacement seals - we'll keep plenty in stock for you.
Do's and Don'ts
- Be careful when handling hot contents. Hot contents can cause pressure to build up inside the thermos, resulting in hot steam being released. Open carefully to avoid burns.
- Do not overtighten the thermos lid.
- Do not pack carbonated or fermented products in the thermos.
- Do not boil the thermos.
- Do not put OmieBox or its thermos in the microwave (or any other heat source).
- Exercise extreme caution when opening a stuck thermos lid, as internal pressure can cause the lid to eject forcefully. Always point it away from people and pets to avoid injury.
- Do not put OmieBox or any of its components in the dishwasher.
Troubleshooting OMIE Box issues
My thermos isn't keeping my food warm enough
OmieBox is designed for children aged 3 to 8 years. To minimize and prevent any potential burns in young children, we constructed the thermos to keep food at slightly lower temperatures than an adult might desire.
We have a few professional tips to make sure your thermos works as designed!
First – always preheat your thermos with hot water. Second – choose foods like soup or items with sauce. Bread-based items like quesadillas or chicken nuggets will not stay warm for very long. If you think your thermos is not performing optimally, you can test its insulation by following the steps below:
Place the thermos on a flat surface and pour boiling water into the thermos.
After about 5 minutes, feel the outside of the thermos (below the neck).
If you feel any hot spots, the insulation is compromised, and you may be entitled to a thermos replacement.
What if my OmieBox leaks?
If your OmieBox is leaking, first reinsert the lid seal or the O-ring seal. 9 out of 10 times it's because these two items are installed incorrectly. Follow the installation instructions and check that the seal is smooth and even. Creases or waves can cause leaks.
After packing your food, close the lid and lock it. Make sure you use the palms of your hands to press down all over the surface of the lid. This helps to engage the seal.
Did you accidentally put it in the dishwasher? If you did, then that might explain why it's leaking. The high heat of the dishwasher can cause warping, which is why your box is leaking.
What if I can't open my OmieBox thermos?
If the lid of your OmieBox thermos is difficult to open, try placing it in an ice bath for 20 minutes. Do not use excessive force, as forcing the lid open can cause a sudden release of pressure and increase the likelihood of an accident! Always point any stuck lids away from people or pets to avoid injury.
Please do not try to force the lid open. Just email us at shop@momsbox.eu and we will send you a warranty replacement.
Why is there a white residue on my lid?
You might notice a small white spot on your lid. Rest assured, this is not a manufacturing defect! This is where our machine injects plastic into the mold to form the top lid. We intentionally placed the injection port in this location because it forms the flattest possible lids (and having a flat lid is the key ingredient to making OmieBox leakproof). This design causes a small white mark on the lid after molding.
